Allison Evans - Amuse-Bouche / February 14th - March 22nd, 2015

Added on by Mitchell Wright.

106 Green is proud to present Amuse-Bouche, by New York based artist Allison Evans. The show features a group of recent drawings, all done with a brush and acrylic on paper. They blend the language of gestural figure studies with that of cartoon sketches and storyboard frames. Most of the drawings feature female protagonists and have the spirit of short comedic sketches, highlighting personal, sexual, and social anxieties. Her up-tempo execution matches the imaginative wit and humor of the images.

In Evans’ words, “These drawings ought to be couched in discussion of feminist politics and gender-based identities, but to do so would be disingenuous. They are purely expressions
of irreverence.”

Bio from the artist:
Allison Evans is a fairly neurotic Jew, originally from New Haven, CT. She somehow survived four years in the rural tundra of New Hampshire, earning her BA from Dartmouth in 2002. After a brief stop-over in Boston, Allison found her way to NYC where she received her MFA from Hunter College in 2009. Allison's work has been exhibited at Buia Gallery, Edward Thorp Gallery, and General Practice, among other venues. She currently resides in Ridgewood with a small Siamese cat named Daphne who quells her anxiety and makes it impossible for her to ever work at home.
